Which iPod do I Have?

Below is a guide describing the iPod models which have and are currently available.

iPod Nano 3rd Gen

This iPod was released in 2007. It is only 6.5 mm thick and features a colour display and clickwheel. This is the first Nano which can play movies as well as songs and photos. It is available in silver, blue, red, green and black and has a mirror finish on the back.

iPod Nano 2nd Gen

The 2nd Gen Nano has a colour screen and clickwheel, and is capable of showing photos. It has an aluminium finish which wraps round the whole iPod will curved sides. It was available in a variety of colours; black, silver, pink, blue, green, and red.

iPod Nano 1st Gen

The first in the Nano range and was much smaller than previous iPod's of a similar capacity, hence the name. It featured a full colour screen and clickwheel, was available in black or white with a mirror finish on the back.

iPod Classic

The iPod classic retains the traditional style of the iPod range. It features a clickwheel and is available in black or silver with a mirror finish at the back. Features a 2.5 inch colour display and is capable of storing many hours of video with up to 160gb of storage space.

iPod Touch

The touch gets its name from the touch screen functionality which has replaced the clickwheel on this iPod. It is available in either 8gb or 16gb and is capable of video playback. The interface is the same as the one used for the iPhone and the Touch also benefits from WiFi web browsing. This enables you to browse the internet using a broadband connection provided that you are in a WiFi hotspot.

iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen

The iPod shuffle second gen is currently the smallest iPod available and has 1gb of storage. It has a simple 5 button design with no LCD screen. It also incorporates a clip so that it can be clipped anywhere that is convenient for you. It is available in a variety of colours: blue, green, silver, red and purple.

iPod Shuffle 1st Gen

The original shuffle is completely white and is in a USB pen drive style. The USB connection is inserted into the iPod so that no extra cable is needed to connect it to a computer. There is a simple five button control panel on the front which also has a status light and a slider control on the back.

iPhone

The iPhone has a large touchscreen display in the same style as the iPod touch. It has all the functions of a standard phone as well as play videos, music, show photos and browse the internet using either WiFi or EDGE technology.

iPod Video (5th Gen)

The iPod video was the first iPod capable of Video playback as well as photo display. It was available in either black or white and featured a colour screen and clickwheel.

iPod Photo

This was the first iPod to feature a colour screen and to display photos. It had a clickwheel and there were a variety of sizes available, both for storage and physical size. The compatibility of accessories depends on which specific model you have.

iPod 4th Gen

The fourth generation iPod featured a dock connector and a blue & white screen. This was the first ipod which had the playback buttons (play/pause, skip forward, skip back, menu) featured on the clickwheel.

iPod 3rd Gen

This iPod had a white finish at the front and a mirror finish at the back. It had a black and white display and a click wheel. It was the first iPod to feature the dock connector at the bottom of the unit. There were four round buttons under the screen but above the wheel.

iPod 1st & 2nd Gen

The first iPod's available had a scroll wheel with four buttons circling it. They had a black and white display but did not have a dock connector, instead they used a firewire connection at the top of the iPod.
